[Week 4]

Acts Chapter 6:1-7

Verse of the Week

So the word of God spread.  The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith.

Acts 6:7

The Big Idea

As the church grows in size, so do the needs!

Vs. 1-7

Earlier in Acts 2:47, we are told that the Lord added to their numbers day by day to those who were being saved.  We are experiencing the same thing today! The church continues to grow in numbers and more importantly, people are growing closer to Jesus! As the church grows in size, so do the needs.  We have been blessed that the majority of the people who attend Connection Church serve in some area of the church.  We have many areas for people to serve in such as setup and tear down, guest services, prayer team, worship, production, Connect group leaders, kids ministry and student ministry.  We believe that every person has a purpose. We also believe that each believer has been given a spiritual gift distributed by the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12).  The purpose of each gift is to bring unity in the Church and ultimately to bring God Glory.  Begin to pray on where the Lord would have you serve in His church. Also, if you don’t know what your gift is, begin to ask God to show you what your gift is and how you can use it in the church!

As the church grows so do issues. When we read the description of the early church, we may wish we could be a part of this “perfect” church.  Miracles were happening, people were sharing and being generous and they had great unity and fellowship.  In reality, the early church had problems just as we do today.  No church has ever been or will ever be perfect until Jesus returns.  The truth is, all churches have problems.  When you get caught up on the problems of the church ask yourself this question: Would a perfect church allow me to be a member?  The answer should be NO.  We all fall short and this is why we ALL need Jesus!  He is the only perfect person to walk this earth.   As issues arise in the church, it is always the best practice to let one of the leaders of the church know so it can be addressed.  If you see an area of the church that is struggling, ask the Lord if this is the area that He is wanting you to serve in.
