MATTHEW 28:18-20

Verse of the Week

"All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” [Matthew 28:18-20]

Big Picture

The God of the bible is a missionary God and the bible is a missionary book. From the beginning to the end it’s all about glorifying God and extending His glory to the ends of the earth. We are all called to take part in the mission of God. The only question left for us to ask ourselves is am I taking part in God’s mission?

Main Points

  1. The Intro and Story
Our Purpose is to know God and make him known. All throughout scripture we see  a global thread of God wanting to spread his glory to the nations. That’s His heart beat starting all the way back in Genesis 12 when talking to Abram God says, “ All peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” We serve a missional God that sent his Son Jesus on a mission to restore us back to him. When the Gospel comes to us it doesn’t stop, it should continue through us to the ends of the world. What does that look like practically for you? We can be a part of what God is doing globally in several different ways.

    1. Be a Goer- God does call and send people to actually go to an unreached people group and share the Gospel.

    2. Be a sender- We are a sending church. If you give financially to CCDublin you are supporting missionaries actually out there amongst unreached people groups.

    3. Be a Mobilizer- Be someone who learns and takes part in helping equip and train others to go.

    4. Be an Intercessor- Intercede in prayer specifically for our missionaries amongst unreached and for the unreached people groups themselves.

    5. Be a welcomer- be open and able to welcome and build relationships with people from other people groups who are living here locally.

  2. The Resurrection Gives Purpose for Those Who Believe
One of the many blessings of following Jesus is that we are able to live every day with the end in mind and we should. Revelation 7:9 says this, “After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people, and language, standing before the throne and before the lamb”. We must be a people who live our life because of the Gospel in order to further the Gospel.  Romans 5:8 says, But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. The Gospel gives us fuel for the mission. We, having the end in mind should be a people that knowing the grace of God poured out on us live to further the Glory of God.
