FAMILY DISCIPLESHIP

RESOURCES

“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates [Deuteronomy 6:4-9] .

Family Discipleship Curriculum

(As your family sits around the dinner table, or grabs your dinner in a drive through, use this as an opportunity for great discussion on the following topic)

In the beginning, there was nothing except for God. So, He decided to create everything. He created night and day, sky and sea, land, plants, trees, seasons, stars, birds, creatures of the sea, livestock, male and female (me and you!).

WEEK 1

“The Sun Stops Shining”
(the crucifixion from Matthew 27, Mark 15, Luke 23 and John 19)

  • Read the story together as a family starting on page 302 in Jesus Storybook Bible.

  • Ask your children how they think it made Jesus feel when the Roman soldiers were so mean to him?

  • Ask them how it makes them feel when someone is not nice to them?

  • Was it the nails that kept Jesus on the cross or His love for us?

  • Remind your children that Jesus died for all of us so that we would be free from sin. He rescued the whole world by staying on that cross and sacrificing His life for us.

  • Jesus’ friends carried his body to a tomb. What is a tomb? What was it made out of? (rock)

Pray together as a family thanking God for sending Jesus to die for our sins. Sending His only son, Jesus, to be nailed to a cross and die for us. Thank Him for rescuing us from our old sinful lives so we can be free in Him.

WEEK 2

God’s Wonderful Surprise
(The Resurrection, from Matthew 28, Mark 16, Luke 24 and John 20)

  • Read this story out of JSB Bible starting on page 310.

  • Ask the children how many days after they buried Jesus in the tomb did some women go to the tomb to wash and prepare Jesus’ body?

  • Was he there when they arrived?

  • Who appeared to them to tell them the tomb was empty? (an angel!)

  • What did Jesus tell Mary to do once she saw him? (go and tell others about Him.)

  • Listen to “The Commission” by CAIN as a family. Think about what this means and how Jesus wants us to tell everyone about him.

  • Challenge your family to each tell one person about who Jesus is and how He loves them this week!

Pray together as a family and thank God that He sent His son Jesus to save us from our sins and that He’s alive in our hearts today and we are excited that one day He will come back to get His people and take us all to Heaven!

WEEK 3

“Going Home”
(The Ascension, from Matthew 28, Mark 16, Luke 24 and John 14)

  • Read this story together as a family starting on Page 322 in the JSB Bible.

  • What did Jesus tell his friends to go tell the world?

  • What did Jesus mean when he said “death is not the end of you?”

  • Do you have Jesus in your heart?

Pray together as a family. “Dear God, thank you for the gift of salvation and that you died for us and came back then went back up to Heaven. You’re a good Father and we trust your word, the Bible. We believe the Bible and everything it says about you. We want to continue to grow in our relationship with you. Forgive us for our sins and help us to love everyone like you do. We love you, Jesus. Amen.
