“A Sign of The Times ”

Week 5

2 Peter 3:1-9

Verse of the Week

“The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

2 Peter 3: 9

Main Idea:

How to live your life with purpose and in light of eternity.

Remember who God is

Our God is eternal. God literally by only the power of His word spoke everything into existence. God isn't just over everything but at the same time He is in everything and at every place at the same time. God who created space and time is in Himself outside of space and time. He didn't only create the beginning and the end of existence but He is the beginning and the end. God is all powerful, and all knowing. The only reason you can read this guide right now is because God is both allowing you to breath and giving you the air to breath. He has the power to create and the power to destroy. He has created and destroyed and He will again destroy and create.

Discussion Questions:

  1. Do you have a correct view of God?

  2. How has reading this passage changed your view of God?

Remember God's Plan

God has already shown us that he has the power to create. In the time of Noah he showed that He and He alone has the power to destroy what He created when he flooded the earth due to how wicked humanity had become. Peter tells us in  Verse 7 that by the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire. In other words Jesus will return to Judge the sins of the world. He is coming back and there will be judgement for sin. In the past God told Noah to build a boat and through that boat he saved a few who were faithful. This time instead of a boat, God sent His son. A perfect, sinless, sacrifice in which to carry all of those who would believe. If you would only put your faith in Jesus Christ and His finished work on the cross you will have hope for eternity. And in this Hope you will find your purpose.

Discussion Questions:

  1. Have you surrendered?

  2. Have you placed your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior?

  3. Have you been undone, and experienced real life change in response to the Gospel?

Live Life with Purpose

Knowing Jesus Christ as Lord and savior means you have a purpose for your life. No matter what the world tells you in relation to your circumstance or surroundings, Jesus says you have purpose. That purpose is to know God, and make Him known. To be a Disciple and Make Disciples. To live out the grace and glory of God in your everyday life wherever you are. The time is now. You only have a short time here on earth don't waste it continuing to chase after the meaningless pursuits that you have already seen will never fully and finally satisfy you. Don't allow the temporary and short time that you get here on earth to drive what you do and who you are. Live life in light of eternity and your eternal purpose. Know your purpose. Know God and make him known. Plan your daily schedules with that purpose in mind. Plan your week with purpose. Go to work with purpose. Live your life with purpose. Remember Who God is, Remembers God's plan, and start living your life with purpose.

Discussion Questions:

  1. Are you living life with purpose?

  2. What is an area of your life that you need to realign in light of your eternal purpose?

  3. What is your next step with Jesus?
